"Art is born of the observation and investigation of nature." -Cicero
I am inspired by many things, but two stand out in the crowd.
The first involves the incredible landscapes and terrain of the West Coast. With homes in the Portland area and Bend, my art is influenced by the Oregon Coast, lush forests, tall mountains and high plains drifter deserts. It never ceases to amaze me how diverse our topography and weather are out here! I am also fortunate to spend time in Hawaii each year, a place so magical, I can’t not be inspired to paint the mood it puts me in….which leads me to my second source of inspiration.
I am greatly affected by how specific places make me feel. With the view as my guide, I intuitively paint what the extraordinary setting forges on the inside. The result is a raw, organic original work of art that comes from the truest place possible. I am happiest when I am standing in front of a large canvas, palette knife in one hand, a mass of texture in the other, ready to communicate the perception of place through creative spirit. It is one of the greatest privileges in this lovely life.
